News from Supporting Organizations

The Wyoming City Schools have recently been referred to as one of the ‘most green’ in the entire state by Hamilton County Recycling. This is because of the amazing progress that was made last year lead by the Green Team. We are excited to share a handful of these successes:

  • The schools received $27,600 in new grant funding
  • Primary schools officially registered with Hamilton County Recycling Assistance Program (and now again for the 2nd year since 2009)
  • 16,000 plastic utensil packets eliminated at the Middle School last year with the implementation of reusable flatware; and now at the High School this year!
  • First ever recycling program in place at May Fete (which will be expanded in 2019)
  • Zero Waste Lunches (ZWL) implemented quarterly resulted in extensive waste reduction at both the Primaries and Middle School

We are back in action this year! We plan to build on this progress with additional initiatives to keep the Wyoming City Schools as a leader in environmental progressiveness – and we need your help.

Our Primary Schools  participated in this year’s first Zero Waste Lunch today Thursday, Oct. 4th!

Further reducing cafeteria waste is one of our highest priorities…. Here are a few tips (helpful for every day):

Reduce – Avoid disposables, throwaway items and individually packaged foods; buy in bulk if possible and divide into individual servings

Reuse – Invest in durable reusable containers; clean and reuse plastic bags and containers

Recycle – Remind kids to pour off extra liquids from recyclable bottles and cartons and place them the recycling bin (Waste Stations at Primaries have a bucket for poor off liquid and a recycle bin located together)

Thank you for your efforts in making our ZWL days a success!

WSMA bringing performance opportunity Wyoming for K-6th grade students

Wyoming School Music Association (WSMA) is proud to present a week-long Missoula Children’s Theatre Camp for Kindergarten – 6th grade on November 12-17 in Fay Auditorium. Missoula Children’s Theatre travels the world producing one-week theatre residencies and WSMA is bringing their expertise and enthusiasm to Wyoming for our younger students to experience the theatre. The camp is expected to fill quickly, so visit http://www.wyomingmusic.org soon to register.

Participants will perform “ROBIN HOOD”, Conceived and Written by Michael McGill, Music by Michael McGill: The time is simply long ago and the place is the magical, mythical Sherwood Forest. Our hero, Robin Hood, and his Merry Band of colorful characters seek the help of the Foresters, manage to waylay the Aristocrats and set out to rescue Maid Marion and Marion’s Maid. Prince John tries to stay calm as his Sheriff, guards, and horsemen botch Robin’s arrest thanks to the aromatic Skunks. Wacky humor and an original score add to this fresh new look at a legendary outlaw in a legendary time.

Theatre Camp Information:
*This camp is only for Wyoming students in Kindergarten – 6th grade.
*The camp will run 4-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, Nov. 12–16. There will be two shows: 3 & 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.
*If you register and pay for the camp, your student is guaranteed a role in “Robin Hood”.
*All students will audition for their individual part/role on Monday, Nov. 12, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. After the audition, some students will stay for rehearsal that evening and some will be finished for the day. After the students learn their roles, they will receive a rehearsal schedule for the rest of the week (kindergarten and 1st graders will not stay past 6 p.m. on school nights). Students MUST be available for the FULL WEEK of rehearsals – they will not be excused for appointments or practices when they are called to rehearse.
*Students do NOT have to prepare anything for the audition. The Missoula directors will ask students to act and sing various things, but no advance preparation is necessary – just bring a smile and good attitude.
*There are 4 Tech Crew parts for interested 5th or 6th graders.
*The cost to participate is $160 per student. This includes: a week of rehearsals with professional directors, two fully-produced musical performances with a full set and costumes from Missoula, snacks during every rehearsal break time, a pizza dinner between the two shows on Saturday, two tickets to each show (additional tickets will be available for purchase), and an experience to learn about and appreciate the world of musical theatre.

Visit http://www.wyomingmusic.org to fill out the form and pay through PayPal to officially register your child.
